The Bernards Inn, a luxury boutique hotel and restaurant, is known for its extensive wine collection — with more than 1,500 varieties in its cellar, the ever-changing wine list is a must-see for any Central Jersey wine lover.
Now, once again, the semiannual Around the World Tasting will allow these wine lovers to try more than 100 wines from some of the most celebrated wine regions in the world encompassed on the award-winning wine list, which has brought home wine awards year after year.
The tasting, which has been conducted in April and September for the past five years and has sold out its 120 tickets every time, will take place Friday, Sept. 29, at the Inn for $49 per person from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Guests can call 908-766-0002 to make their reservation.
“Customers can’t buy many of the wines that we bring in for this at retail stores, so that’s a huge draw,” said Terri Baldwin, wine director and sommelier at the Inn. “Plus, the venue itself is beautiful. After the tasting, visitors can go to the restaurant and grab either a bite to eat or a three-course meal.”
Baldwin said that the tickets are limited each year because she wants customers to be able to taste as many wines as they want without having to wait in long lines at the wine tables, which are organized by theme, such as by Brunello or Southern Roman wines. This way, customers can easily decide which types of wines they would like to try and purchase if they choose to.
Wines in the tasting range from $12 to $125 per bottle for purchase, with selections from purveyors including Anderson Valley Roederer Estate, all of which have high rankings from Wine Spectator; Spire Estate, which produces wines often sought out by collectors; Perrin Family; the Prisoner Wine Company; and more. Light hors d’oeuvres will also be served, including cheeses, dips and breads.
Attendees may also turn the event into an overnight getaway with the Go! Around the World package, which, for rates starting at $400, includes overnight guestroom accommodations, a seasonal amenity for two, two tasting admissions as well as a $100 food and beverage credit that can be used in the dining room for dinner before or after the event.
Baldwin said that the Around the World Tasting isn’t just for those who are knowledgeable about wine — it’s also for those eager to learn something new.
“Those representing the wines are incredibly knowledgeable so you can get a wine education while you taste,” she said. “You can ask as many questions as you like and you don’t have to be intimidated.”
The Bernards Inn received the 2017 Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence for the 18th consecutive year, while the World of Fine Wine distinguished the restaurant as offering one of the best wine lists in the world for the third time in its international ranking. The panel of judges from the World of Fine Wine judged over 4,500 restaurants and only 322 received the top-tier rating of three stars.
